Entry Point
Highway 169 north from Virginia and Highway 1 west from Ely leads to Tower. As the crow flies it is about 30 miles from the Canadian border. (see map)
About Tower
On the Trail, along highways 169/1 is the city of Tower, population 500. This popular area, located on world famous Lake Vermilion, offers fishing, boating, swimming, camping, parks, museums, historical sites, and more. The Mesabi TrailSM connects Tower with its next door neighbor, Soudan, a distance of about three miles.
Highlights
Tower has an Historical Train Museum for those interested in railroad history. The old fire hall, located in the Federal Registry of Historic Places, is another popular attraction. A July 4th celebration attracts visitors every year. Tower also combines with nearby Soudan for several yearly festivals.
Services
Lodging, restaurants, boat rentals, supply stores, convenience stores, clinic, city hall, and post office are available in Tower.
