The Ride
The Great River Energy Mesabi TrailSM Tour is a day-long event designed for families and serious trail riders alike. Four starting points allow riders to customize their routes anywhere from 13 to 67 miles. At the end of the day the event culminates with an outdoor picnic and concert. Whichever starting point you choose, you'll encounter historic and scenic points of interest, with plenty of fun stops with food and musical entertainment along the way. To make the deal even sweeter, transportation from the finish to your starting point for you and your bike is on us.
Registration for the Tour includes:- Your choice of four different routes - all leading to Virginia's Olcott Park.
67 miles from Grand Rapids "Mesabi Century Ride" (this is a metric century)
48 miles from Marble
26 miles from Hibbing
13 miles from Buhl
- Music - music - music!
Live local entertainers perform at most start points and at the finish line.
- Food - food - and more food.
Enjoy food & refreshments at all start points and rest stops, plus a picnic dinner with vegetarian options at the finish line.
- Free T-shirt for each participant. Including special "Mesabi Century Ride" shirt for longest route riders.
- Three Day Mesabi TrailSM Wheel Pass (use your tour wrist band as your three day pass).
- Transportation of bicycles from the finish in Virginia to start points in Grand Rapids, Marble, Hibbing and Buhl. (see the Event Schedule for specific times):
If you show up in Virginia (the finish line for all routes) on Friday night with your bike, for FREE we will wrap it safely, load it on a truck, and transport it to your chosen start location for secure overnight storage.
If you wait until Saturday morning, we will have charge you $20 to transport your bike (because it's a lot of extra work and expense to get riders and bikes transported in a short time frame the day of the tour).
If you would rather not have us transport your bicycle for FREE on Friday night, or wish to avoid the $20 fee on Saturday morning, you can do-it-yourself and drop your bike at your chosen start location on Friday night or Saturday morning (see Event Schedule for specific times), and still take advantage of the FREE rider bus transportation on Saturday morning from the finish line in Virginia to all start locations.
- Transportation of riders from the finish in Virginia to start points in Grand Rapids, Marble, Hibbing or Buhl (see the Event Schedule for specific times):
Come to the finish in Virginia on Saturday morning to catch the FREE bus transportation to your chosen start location. If you shipped your bike the night before, it will be there waiting. After enjoying a wonderful day on the Mesabi Trail, when you arrive at the finish line your vehicle will be there waiting for you.
If you will be camping or staying in a lodging facility overnight - think about staying in the Quad-Cities area of Virginia, Eveleth, Gilbert or Mt Iron to more easily take advantage of transportation for riders and bikes.
Of course you can always make your own transportation plans for bikes and riders, just check out the Event Schedule page to coordinate your plans.
THERE IS NO TRANSPORTATION OF RIDERS OR BICYCLES AT THE END OF THE DAY
