For access to the Mesabi TrailTM from Highway 169, exit onto 4th Ave SE to Lake Street, veering left. Parking is on Lake Street and 1st Ave. SE.
Along the Trail, seven miles east of Hibbing, is the city of Chisholm. It is home to one of the region's major tourist attractions, the Minnesota Discovery Center. Longyear Lake is also located within city limits and has a walking trail, fishing piers and a boat launch. Other attractions include the Minnesota Museum of Mining, a WPA Project called the Rock Wall and Museum, Bruce Mine Headframe, and the Iron Ore Miner Memorial.
Events held in Chisholm include the annual Polar Bear Days in February, the Chilly Open Golf Tournament in March, "Moonlight" Graham Days in August, and the Field of Screams Haunted Tours in October.
Restaurants, gas stations and a grocery store are located in Chisholm.
