Mesabi Trail

Tour Routes

The tour route is moved to a different part of the Mesabi Trail every year -
go to Tour Route map for the 2019 course traveling between Gilbert and Grand Rapids.

Choose from four different routes ranging from 72 to 10 miles.

FYI - The Mesabi Trail is not a rail to trail conversion - it is not entirely flat and straight. As you travel through our beautiful NE Minnesota country side, you will encounter a few hills and curves - some fairly steep and sharp. Please BE SAFE and take this into consideration as you plan your tour route according to your cycling abilities.*

* The Great River Energy Mesabi Trail Tour is on the Mesabi Trail - a signed, designated bike trail. Riders during the tour are expected to follow the normal rules of bike trails, and be responsible as to their capabilities, equipment, weather and other issues. NOTE - tour course marshals DO NOT stop vehicle traffic...cyclists must follow traffic laws and yield or stop for motor vehicles.

To make the Tour the best experience for our guests, we will fully staff the tour route up to 5 p.m. If you are starting from one of the longer routes, you should be aware of your capabilities and the distance you intend to travel.

Our rest stops and support personnel, for the most part volunteers, will be on the trail roughly to 5 p.m. After that point, do not expect Tour support, sag vehicles, or EMS services will be available in a timely fashion. Our volunteers are dedicated, from Friday night to about 5 p.m. on Saturday, we cannot ask then to stay longer. So please plan your route to meet your abilities, and enjoy a safe, fun and energetic Tour!
